Colorado State Hemp Management Plan

On June 18th, the Colorado Department of Agriculture (CDA), in partnership with Governor Polis and the Office of the Attorney General, submitted the Colorado State Hemp Management Plan (the “Plan”) to the US Department of Agriculture.

The Plan addresses the Interim Final Rule requirements and many aspects that the industry has worked through the CHAMP process to enable CDA to manage a sustainable state commercial hemp industry, including the use of the third party, approved laboratories and approved samplers to accomplish 100% variety testing, options for discipline waivers and post-harvest testing under certain parameters.

USDA has 60 days to review Colorado’s Plan. Once approved, the Plan will begin implementation on November 1, 2020.

CDA wanted to thank everyone who provided feedback on how Colorado’s Plan should address the requirements of the Interim Final Rule. Feedback from numerous stakeholders statewide contributed to the State Plan; including input from farmers, processors and product manufacturers, state and local government agencies, healthcare professionals, financial services providers, law enforcement and academic institutions.
